Fallin' Skies

After a short but well deserved vacations (they always are), I'm back, and as promised in my last post (Back to the Future) today I will present my first videogame: Fallin' Skies (Press here to play - Sorry, link is temporarily unavailable).

Back to the Future

Previously on Hangman's Hill...
In my last post (Dualism) I showed an exercise that we had to do some time ago (and the personal touch I gave it while working as a Demo Artist during GameLab 2012).

This post is a brief catch up of some work that I consider important enough to be shown but that I just had no time to post when I created it.

Dualism

Dualism is defined as 'the division of something conceptually into two opposed or contrasted aspects, such as good and evil or mind and matter'.

After the Alien heads that I already showed here we had to do ourselves in a realistic style.

Gentlemen, start your engines...

I'm back.

First of all (and once again) I'd like to apologize for not updating the blog for the past months, I've been terribly busy with the videogame production class and the birth of my son...

I'm not going to bore you with loooooooooooooooooooong stories you will (most likely) not care about; instead, I will make a brief summary of what I've been doing up to date.

In this post I will briefly explain (for those who followed me before) why the sudden change in the blog header.

The Night of the Aliens (Organics I)

Sorry, it’s been a while since I last posted, but that’s because something incredible happened to me:

I was… (dramatic pause) ABDUCTED! …(chan chan chaaaaaaan).

You might think that I’ve gone crazy but I can assure you that I’m not… before I never believed in such things, but then it happened to me the other night.

Actually I have some proofs that I will show you right away…

Chasing Cars (II) - Chasing Trucks

Who didn’t think of being a firefighter once? I don’t know the reason, but when we are kids it is one of the professions we all want to “do when we are old”. When we grow up, very few have the guts to be firefighters… it is a very hard job and you risk your life quite often to help the others. (As an American would say) this is my small tribute to all firefighters in the world...

THE FIRE TRUCK

At first I didn’t like the project that was assigned to me since there were a lot of other things to do, like a weapon or a tank and we just made a car, but you cannot always choose, right? So I began working on it and soon realized that it was more interesting than it seemed at the beginning.

Chasing Cars (I)

Today I’m introducing a topic: “Past times were better” but do not worry I will NOT discuss topical sentences like “youth is lost”, “the end is near” or “it’s over 9000!”; I will be talking about… the 60’s.

A lot of things happened in the 60’s: Among others, the construction of the Berlin Wall (1961), Akira Kurosawa's Yojimbo (1961) and Sanjuro (1962), John F. Kennedy election (1961) and assassination (1963), the creation of Spacewar! (1962) one of the first known digital computer games, the hippie movement (mid 60's), Star Trek: The Original series (1966 - 1969), the students and workers uprisings in France (1968), the man on the moon (1969), aaaaaaand the first generation of Chevrolet Camaro (1967 - 1969).

'68 CAMARO

I like Muscle Cars, so I felt quite happy when the '68 Camaro was assigned to me to recreate. What I didn’t know was the headache that would be to get references about this car.
There are a lot of Camaros out there, and they’ve all been modified in every possible way, surprisingly (almost) every modification make the car look good (must be the shape) but that made the search for references, though successful, a bit difficult.

Week #1

It’s been a week since the start of the “Production of 3D Videogames” course at BloomPix Studios and I must say I’m pretty impressed with what we’ve done so far. Here are some examples:

TABLE and SCREEN

By the end of the first day we were able to do a table (see above) with a basic layout of 4 cylinders (8 at the beginning – then we learned to use subdivisions) and a cube. I especially like it because it was my first project.

A litle bit of Bio...

I’m 32 and about to be a father (when I write these lines). I’ve got a technical background (Computer Science) but also an artistical background (Graphic Design) and experience as Systems Technician, System Administrator and Regional Technology Manager where I got experience in Projects (as Project Manager) and in Sales (as Sales Support – technical at first and full support after a while – for the General Manager).

I always liked videogames, I think I’ve touched every single piece of Hardware that has been in the market (at least in Spain) from the Atari 2600 (thanks to my father) to the last generation of consoles (Xbox360 and Playstation3 with Kinect and Move) with some priceless jewels like the MSX2 or the first Famicom… and a lot of games... godd*mit I even have an original Metal Gear
